Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 577 provides highly skilled and trained pipefitters, plumbers, and mechanical service technicians to Portsmouth and the entire Southern Ohio region. For over 110 years, the men and women of UA Local 577 have built our communities’ infrastructure, industrial facilities, and major commercial developments. UA 577 Tradespeople are the highest-trained, safest in the business. From industrial and commercial construction to power facilities, UA 577 members have the training and expertise to build and maintain our communities for the next century.
The members of UA Local 577, through joint labor-management partnerships, invest nearly $650,000 every year to train Southern Ohio’s next generation of Plumbing and Pipefitting tradespeople. Training is tuition-free. Apprentices earn union-scale, competitive wages with full benefits packages.

Requirements
TYPICALLY LOCAL 577 USES THE PRE-APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM AS A GATEWAY TO THE APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM.
THE APPLICATION PROCESS FOR THE PRE-APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM IS AS FOLLOWS:
APPLICATIONS ARE ACCEPTED YEAR ROUND. ALL APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA.
1) MUST BE 18 YEARS OLD. EXCEPTIONS FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED IN CAREER TECHNICAL CENTERS.
2) MUST RESIDE IN ONE OF THE FOLLOWING OHIO COUNTIES: SCIOTO, LAWRENCE, PIKE, ADAMS, JACKSON, HIGHLAND, VINTON, GALLIA, AND ATHENS.
3) HAVE A VALID DRIVERS LICENSE WITH NO RESTRICTIONS.
4) MUST BE LEGALLY ALLOWED TO WORK IN THE UNITED STATES.
THE LOCAL 577 APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM TYPICALLY TAKES APPLICANTS WHO COMPLETE THE PRE-APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM
BUT SOMETIMES DOES TAKE APPLICATIONS FOR THE APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM. THE APPLICATION PROCESS IS THE SAME EXCEPT THEY DO INTERVIEWS
AT THE CONCLUSION OF THE PROCESS. THE APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM CONSISTS OF FOUR WEEKS A YEAR
OF CLASSROOM TRAINING WITH COMBINED CREDIT FOR ON THE JOB TRAINING.
THE APPRENTICESHIP IS A FIVE YEAR PROGRAM.
